Stop-work order on pre-school project
A PRE-SCHOOL building project in Rawang was halted after it was given a stop-work order by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) when it was discovered it was planned on a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) reserve land.
The project, which is part of SJK (C) San Yuk, under a plan by the Education Ministry, should be up and running by January with a capacity of 25 pre-schoolers.
Selayang parliamentary coordinator Jessie Ooi said the school had identified the land, which was next to the school building, thinking that the land was gazetted for school purposes.
“However, they discovered later that it is TNB reserve land when they received a stop-work order, by which time the building was already 92% completed.
“Upon a check with the Gombak District Land Office, the pre-school could still be established if the land can be passed for a temporary occupancy licence but the application should come from TNB itself,” Ooi told a press conference recently.
Ooi said she would talk to TNB to come to an amicable conclusion on the matter so the pre-school could obtain a temporary occupancy licence.
“We need to get this matter sorted out as the project has been idle since the stop work order in February although it is almost completed. We hope that if everything goes well, children who are already registered at the school could start early next year,” added Ooi.
