Datuk Ong Tee Keat’s priority now is to look into the problems faced by the rakyat and not about what position to go for in the MCA elections.
Ong said his mission was to try to resolve the problems faced by the people, including looking at ways on how to ease their burden following the rise in fuel prices.
“We need to regain public confidence. So, I mean business when I say that that we need to set our priorities right.
“I have to set things right before we talk about party elections because if we can’t deliver, we will not be able to gain the confidence of the people.
“There is no point being elected and not working for the people,” he said when asked if he had given thought to the fact he was the front-runner for the MCA president’s post.
Ong told this to reporters after opening Wanita MCA deputy chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun’s new service centre and the MCA Damansara Utama branch yesterday.
He said the MCA service centres were being re-branded. He said although the service centres have been helping not only the Chinese community but also other races, there was a need to be more aggressive in doing community service.
“For me, there are three categories of people – the dreamers, talkers and doers.
“It is not wrong to dream or talk but this needs to be translated into work, otherwise one would not be able to connect with the people,” he added.
Ong said that as Selangor MCA liaison chief he wanted to set a new culture of bringing about concrete development and also ensure the people’s grouses were looked into.
