SHAH ALAM: Those driving home to celebrate Chinese New Year must not let their guard down on the road as authorities are coming down hard on traffic offenders, says Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai(pic).

"Revellers should not drink and drive. If you must drink, get someone to take you home safely," said the Transport Minister, adding that it was good that many had opted to hire the services of Uber or GrabCar.

Liow said this when met after paying his last respects to the late father of MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun at Bukit Jelutong here Tuesday (Feb 6).

Chew's father, Wai Sien, passed away at the Shah Alam Hospital at the age of 84 on Monday (Feb 5).

Liow advised road users to abide by the traffic rules and regulations, adding that enforcement agencies would be strict to prevent accidents.

"We are not out to just issue summonses – it is meant to deter irresponsible driving.

"We want to save lives and ensure motorists reach home safe," he said.
