For the benefit of Chinese parents & students, the 10+6 schools must be continued

I hope the Ministry of Education will continue to develop Chinese primary schools (SJKC), in particular the 10 new SJKC and 6 relocated SJKC within the pre-determined time period so that in locations where there is a demand for SJKC, the said pupils may be enrolled. These SJKC will benefit the residents of the said areas.    

The construction of SJKC is an important aspect of education for the next generation. Irrespective of which political pact wields the federal government, the construction and development of SJKC should be one of the top priorities. For the Chinese community, the institutionalisation for the establishment of SJKC is one of the greatest guarantees for the continuation of mother tongue.

MCA Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr Ir Wee Ka Siong had on 26 June 2018 met up with the new Minister of Education Dr Maszlee Malik during a briefing for the incoming Members of Parliamentarians at Parliament, whereby it is expected that an announcement will soon be made on the progress of the 10+6 SJKC, which’s construction is expected to be completed in the next 5 years.

Dr Wee also welcomed the assurance by Dr Maszlee that the Education Ministry will not remove any plans that have already been included in the Education Blueprint. Dr Maszlee also promised that the Pakatan Harapan government will review the various education policies implemented by the former BN government, and continue to work under conditions with reasonable demands. The performance and making improvements to existing plans or projects should not stop.

MCA will fully cooperate with PH government on the construction of the 10+6 SJKC. The former BN government has approved RM20million for this year. It is hoped that the first phase of development for the 10+6 SJKC can be completed soonest possible.

On the 10+6 SJKC, 4 of them are in Johor, and construction is already in full swing. Of these 4 SJKC, two are new SJKC, while two others are relocated SJKC.

In terms of safeguarding the country’s multi-stream education system, MCA has spared no effort and hopes that the construction project for SJKC will be completed as early as possible.
