Fake news: Liow was refused handshake
Truth: Market traders refrained from “dirtying” Liow’s hand

MCA would like to refer to a video which has since gone on social media whereby detractors against our party accuse that MCA President Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai’s attempt to shake hands with market traders was refused. Herewith, we produce an in-house translation of a China Press news article on 5 May 2018:  http://www.chinapress.com.my/?p=1241054  in which a field reporter covering the said market visit has clarified that it was not a situation where market traders had refused to shake hands with Liow, but instead, they were conscious their hands were grimy and did not want Liow’s hand to be “soiled”.

Allegations that Liow’s handshake was refused, but in truth, people were conscious their hands were grimy

Butchers, conscious about the grimy state of their hands, decided against shaking the hands of Liow Tiong Lai.

Recently, a video circulated in social media had claimed that two female butchers had refused to shake hands with MCA President cum Bentong Prliamentary seat candidate, Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, butchers during the campaign period, alleging that he was unpopular amongst the people of Bentong.

Regarding the viral video, field reporters reveal that the two women were in the midst of butchering poultry, realised that their hands were soiled from handling the chicken parts, and hence were reluctant to stain Liow’s hands with a handshake.

At the scene, the red-shirt butcher even jokingly inquired from Liow if he is willing to learn the butchery trade, to which he heartily agreed to, only to be met with the woman saying “No la, no la, I’m afraid you’ll get your hands dirtied.”

A 46-year-old male BN supporter from Kuala Lumpur has spoke out that as an eyewitness to the camaraderie between Liow and the lady butchers, he can reaffirm that the rumours online are false. He added that he had lodged a police report around 1pm after watching the “fake news” online.

To clarify the incident, our newspaper has included several pictures for comparison to allow our readers to discern the truth for themselves.

MCA hopes the press will publish this translated clarification to avoid the masses being misled with fake news.
