Politics of hatred in video showing curses destructive to Malaysian Chinese values
MCA strongly condemns a short video slip currently going viral in social media and mobile phone applications, which carries extremely malicious messages that reflect the deplorable state of politics of the Malaysian Chinese.
The video is using a Chinese religious ritual da xiao ren, or ‘cursing the wrongdoers’, to cast bad spell-including death-onto various non-Malay Barisan Nasional leaders. Such actions not only put the political leaders concerned in a bad light, but also ridicule the Chinese religious belief itself. It demonstrates the most despicable and vicious intention of the video’s creator, which has sunk beyond the very basics of humanity, and certainly far below the basement of morality.
In the past 10 years, the ecosystem of politics of the Malaysian Chinese, especially on the part of public opinion in the cyber world, has developed a worrying trend. We observe that, under a comprehensive planning and mega-method propaganda by certain political groups, the politics of hatred had become a spreading culture, and spreads fast, from visual abuse to physical aggressions, and now mental torture through religious rituals.
The true spirit of democracy lies in rational debates and periodical elections, to choose the capable leaders to helm the country. Unfortunately, certain career opportunists, in their thirst for power, have no qualms poisoning society with hate politics.
It is most disheartening that MCA has become a victim of such politics of hatred. In our sorrow, we have a duty to call upon our fellow Malaysian Chinese, to cool down and think it over, of how the politics of hatred has completely subverted human relationships and the conception of right and wrong, and will ultimately destroy our Chinese traditional values.
If we look around, we will notice that the pushers for politics of hatred, individuals and parties alike, are doing this to merely cover up their weaknesses as they normally have no contributions to show.
I call upon the Malaysian Chinese community to return to our decades-long positive traditions of rational politics, and uphold a healthy political culture by evaluating and comparing alternative policies and approaches, and voting in only those who are sincere in serving the people.
