Finance Minister points out press statements in Chinese to be used by all depts & not limited to Finance Ministry

It remains to be seen whether Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng will implement his announcement to issue press statements in all languages ie Malay, English, Chinese and Tamil in order to demonstrate his emphasis on multiculturalism.   

Guan Eng recently issued a statement that “according to the Federal Constitution, no one can stop another person from communicating in, teaching or learning another language.” This right is guaranteed under Article 152(1) of the Federal Constitution. He also added that this move is a “reflection of the government’s recognition of multilingualism and globalisation.” 

As Guan Eng’s insistence that the use of mother tongue language is a basic constitutional right, and that it also reflects the government’s recognition of multilingualism, we hope all government departments in the Pakatan Harapan government can implement similar measures and publish press statement in multiple languages including English, Chinese and Tamil. Doing so will reflect the ideas of Guan Eng and DAP.

Failing which, Guan Eng’s emphasis on the new PH government recognition’s of the nation’s multilingualism is at best, limited to the office of the Minister of Finance and has nothing to do with the Pakatan Harapan government.
